Which rate the calculator uses
The calculator uses the official exchange rates set by the Bank of Russia every working day. The rate for the next day is published the day before, after 15:00 Moscow time, and applies until the next publication. At weekends and on public holidays, the rate set on the last working day applies.
The official rate is used by accountants and the tax authorities: it is used to convert foreign currency revenue, income from foreign currency deposits and customs payments. At an exchange office or bank the rate will be different: each bank has its own buying and selling rates, and the difference between them is the bank's income.
How to convert one foreign currency into another
The Central Bank sets the rates of all currencies against the rouble. The cross rate between two foreign currencies is calculated via the rouble:
Rate A → B = (roubles per 1 A) / (roubles per 1 B)
The Central Bank quotes some currencies not per one unit but per 10 or 100 (for example, tenge, lira, yen). The calculator takes the denomination into account automatically.
When actually buying currency, go by your bank's rate: it can differ from the official one by a few percent.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the bank rate different from the Central Bank rate?
Banks set their own buying and selling rates. The official Central Bank rate is a benchmark for calculations and reporting; currency is usually not sold at it.
When is the Central Bank rate updated?
Every working day, usually after 15:00 Moscow time. The published rate takes effect the next day.
Can I use the calculator without the internet?
You need the internet to load the rates. If the rates fail to load, enter the rate manually — the conversion will still work.
