Simple written power of attorney

For most everyday errands a power of attorney in simple written form is enough: collecting a salary, education documents, a certificate or a parcel. It states the date and place it was drawn up, the details of the principal and the representative, the powers granted and the term. Without a date the power of attorney is invalid.

Who can certify it

A power of attorney to collect salary, pensions, benefits, stipends, deposits and post (except registered valuables) can be certified by the organisation where the principal works or studies, the management company at their place of residence, or the administration of the hospital where they are being treated (Art. 185.1 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, GK RF). Free of charge.

When you need a notary

• for transactions that require notarial form and for disposing of rights registered in a public register — for example, real estate;
• for submitting applications for state registration of rights;
• for delegating powers onward if the original power of attorney is notarised.

Many banks and the post office accept only notarised powers of attorney or ones drawn up at their branch. Check their requirements in advance.
