A bank card you use to spend only your own money from your account. Unlike a credit card, it does not let you borrow from the bank (apart from a rare technical overdraft).

In Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus

Russia

Cards of the national payment system Mir work in Russia; pensions and most benefits must be paid to them. Money in a card account is insured by the ASV in the same way as deposits — up to 1.4 million ₽ per bank.

Kazakhstan

In Kazakhstan, debit cards are issued by second-tier banks; money in individuals' card accounts is guaranteed by the КФГД (with a lower limit than for savings deposits).

Belarus

Belarus has the national payment system BELKART; pensions and benefits are often paid to a card account.
