In simple terms

A pension point, or IPK (индивидуальный пенсионный коэффициент, individual pension coefficient), is a «score» that adds up to your future insurance pension. Each year in which your employer pays insurance contributions for you, the Social Fund of Russia (СФР, SFR) records several points on your account. The higher your official salary and the longer you work, the more points you have.

When you retire, the points are converted into roubles at the current point value. The value rises every year with indexation, so, unlike roubles, points are not «eaten up» by inflation.

Formula

Pension = IPK × point value + fixed payment

In 2026 the point value is 156.76 ₽ and the fixed payment is 9,584.69 ₽.

Points for a year are calculated like this:

Points for the year = 10 × annual salary / maximum contribution base

The maximum contribution base in 2026 is 2,979,000 ₽. If your salary is higher, you still get no more than 10 points a year (6.25 if you are building a funded pension).

Points are also given for periods without work: childcare up to 1.5 years (1.8 points a year for the first child, 3.6 for the second, 5.4 for the third and fourth), conscript army service (1.8 a year), and care for a person with a group I disability or a person over 80.

Calculation example

A salary of 80,000 ₽ a month before personal income tax (НДФЛ, NDFL), that is, 960,000 ₽ a year.

  • Points for a year: 10 × 960,000 / 2,979,000 ≈ 3.22.
  • For 30 years of work at this salary: 3.22 × 30 = 96.6 points.
  • Plus childcare for two children, 1.5 years each: 1.8 × 1.5 + 3.6 × 1.5 = 2.7 + 5.4 = 8.1 points.
  • Total: 96.6 + 8.1 = 104.7 points.

Pension in 2026 prices: 104.7 × 156.76 + 9,584.69 = 16,412.77 + 9,584.69 = 25,997.46 ₽ a month. You can calculate your own case in the pension calculator.

Where to see your points

On Gosuslugi (Госуслуги), order the «Notice on the state of the personal account in the SFR» («Извещение о состоянии лицевого счёта в СФР»). It shows your record and points by year. Points for periods before 2015 have been recalculated from the old pension rights.

Common mistakes

  • Thinking that points are earned on an «unofficial» («серая») salary. They are not — only on pay on which contributions were paid.
  • Confusing points with roubles: 100 points are not 100 ₽, but about 15,676 ₽ of pension a month plus the fixed payment.
  • Forgetting the minimum: an insurance pension needs 30 points and 15 years of record, otherwise only a social pension is granted, and later.
  • Not checking your statement: if your employer did not file its reports, a year may have no points. The error is corrected through the SFR with supporting documents.
